Badminton reinstated to Olympic Programme
GB Badminton is delighted to learn today that badminton is to be reinstated as a World Class Olympic Programme following the Paris 2024 announcements today from UK Sport.
Adrian Christy, Chief Executive of Badminton England, said: “We are delighted to be reinstated to the Olympic programme and to also receive continued support for our Paralympic programme. We are confident that we have players who are capable of achieving podium places in 2024 and have great faith in the ability of our World Class Performance Programme beyond the Paris Games.”
GB Badminton has been awarded £3.15m for the Olympic programme and £1.1m for its Paralympic Programme.
Christy added “We have always believed in the talent, and medal potential, that sits across both the Olympic and Paralympic programmes and to have both programmes now recognised for the Paris 2024 cycle is testament to the talent of the players, coaches and support team. We are very aware of the obvious challenges on public finances caused by the impact of the pandemic and so are extremely appreciative of this award which allows us not just to move into the Olympics and Paralympics next summer but to plan for a programme that we are confident will make the nation proud in 2024.”
